Initial Teacher Education (ITE) plays a vital role in our education system. A well-functioning ITE system is led by the profession, replenishes and refreshes the teaching workforce, and sustains the overall sector. Therefore, it’s important we get it right.

The project was set up as an independent professional development programme for school principals based on the work of David Stewart and run by the Te Ariki Charitable Trust.

Throughout the Pūaotanga review, the many voices of submitters told a story, often grim, of New Zealand schools in 2021. They described a primary school system where staffing and funding fall far short of being good, or even adequate. So, what would a ‘good’ staffing model look like? Let’s imagine.
