NZEI Te Riu Roa members will be running local activities for the first ever Learning Support Awareness Day on Thursday 29 August.
Action around the motu is to raise awareness of the learning support needs of tamariki and to demand the Government make them a priority!
All tamariki in Aotearoa deserve access to the support they need to thrive in education. Currently the need for learning support far outstrips provision – for every seven tamariki who access support, three miss out.
Educators have several solutions, two key ones being:
- Teacher aide support for all mokopuna that need it.
- Increase the number of learning support specialists working with mokopuna and teachers.
You and your colleagues in your school, kura or centre can help drive the change tamariki desperately need by getting together and planning your own Learning Support Awareness Day.
