- NZEI Te Riu Roa maintains a Bereavement Benefit fund payable on the death of a full financial member or provisional member and not in the event of the death of an honorary member or a relative of a full or provisional member.
- Notify NZEI Te Riu Roa that the member has passed away. The email address to use for this is resources@nzei.org.nz or call the Member Support Centre 0800 693 443.
- To process the application, we require the members full name, last workplace and the name and contact details of the next of kin.
- The NZEI Te Riu Roa Rules provision is that the benefit should be paid to an approved recipient. In determining the approved recipient NZEI Te Riu Roa considers the purpose of the benefit which is to provide immediate financial relief. The benefit could be paid to a spouse, partner, child, parent, or friend of the deceased.
As one of the objects of the fund is to provide immediate financial support, all notifications are treated as urgent.
